Protecting Your Bag from Rain & Winter Wear

With the colder months, leather care can feel like one more thing added to your already full day. But AALLYN bags have been designed to be low maintenance, durable, and easy to care for without a long list of steps or requirement of a collection of products. Below are a few simple guidelines we follow during the cold times to maintain longevity without making it a chore.

 

What to Do if Your Bag Gets Wet

If your bag gets wet, pat it dry with a towel or cloth and let it air-dry naturally. Flip the bag occasionally to make sure all angles are fully dried before storage. Avoid using heat sources such as radiators, hair dryers, or direct sunlight, as they can dry out or warp the leather. Try not to leave your bag in direct rain for long periods, and if you’re caught in it, simply wipe the surface down and let it dry at room temperature.

Using Products Such as Conditioners or Sprays

Leather conditioners can help keep leather soft during cold, dry months, but they are completely optional. If you choose to use a spray, apply it sparingly and always do a patch-test first, as not all products work well with every leather finish. While these products are not required for AALLYN bags, we personally recommend using the Cadillac Boot and Shoe Leather Cleaner,  or the Apple Leather Care Conditioner. Storage During Unuse 

When storing your bag, keep it in its dust bag and place it in a cool, dry area such as a closet. Never store leather while it is damp, since trapped moisture can cause damage over time. Before putting it away, wipe off any dirt, dust or debris to help maintain the leather’s condition and make the bag feel like new the next time you reach for it!
